Winter Solstice and 0°

In ancient times, humans would watch the Sun and know on this day it stood still. It was in the same spot before it turned and backtracked the other way. In the Northern Hemisphere, this is the Winter Solstice on this day, the return of the Sun. In celebration for the start of the Winter Season and welcoming back the warmth of the light, they would bring evergreens and firs inside the home to decorate with dried fruits and candles. We do something very similar today, we bring the feeling of life and light into our homes to remind us, betters days are coming.

To honor this very special day, light a candled and repeat to yourself “I honor the Sun as it rises again, warm my heart and my skin. I plant this seed in the dark, to light the way with a spark.”

The longest dark night. The shortest day light.

What will you do on the longest night? If your answer is sleep, just do it, honor what you need. We can feel really tired and more introverted in the wintry north. It is not the season to expend a ton of energy, it is a time to fold inward, conserve your energy. Respect the darkness this winter season and allow yourself to quiet and to rest. In stillness we find the answers we seek, in quiet we find the healing, the creativity. Take time to reflect on your past year and your hopes and wishes for the new year.

Sun Enters Capricorn

Capricorn is a cardinal sign, meaning it starts a season, Winter in the northern hemisphere and Summer in the southern hemisphere. Happy Birthday Season Capricorns! Sun, Rising and Moon Capricorns have been through a lot these past 2.5 years. You certainly are deserving of this celebratory upgrade! Saturn, Jupiter, Pluto, and eclipses concentrated in this sign over the past 2.5 years has been the most transformational time for you and humanity in hundreds of years. Look to the part of your own chart to see which house or houses Capricorn is in to gain insight into your own personal evolution, if you are not a Capricorn.

We all wish transformation was easy, but it’s not, let’s face it. Birth and awakening are the hardest parts of being human, it’s messy, yucky, painful, long, intense. It is also amazing, rewarding, and clarifying once we get through the hard parts! The nodes shifted from Capricorn/Cancer to Gemini/Sagittarius in May 2020. Saturn and Jupiter shifted to Aquarius last week. Time to take a collective deep breath. A new paradigm is beginning.

The Great Conjunction

We are all extra sensitive today. This past weekend and today I have felt on edge, tired, and emotional. I have been watching this conjunction and anticipating the astrology of December THIS WHOLE YEAR! Amongst the darkness of this tunnel we have been in, this conjunction has been my light. Winter Solstice has always been deeply meaningful to me. Saturn and Jupiter are meeting today in Aquarius at 0°. This is a vulnerable position of us, it feels new exciting and our hopes and dreams are at the ready. However, after such a year as this, we are cautionary. How do you feel in your body, your mind, and your Spirit right now? Are you on the precipice of something new? This is a pivotal degree for new beginnings.

Starting something new can make us feel vulnerable, in vulnerability we find courage. We do not yet know what this transit of these two big planets will do for us personally and collectively. If you think back to around December 2017, this is when the intensity started and built from there. It was all centered around Capricorn, the hard working Earth sign and where it fell in your chart. Earth is heavy, it is unmovable, on the flip side it is secure and stable. Saturn broke down our sense of reality, old habits die hard, old routines die hard, old structures crumble slowly. 2020 showed us that in a way we would have never imagined. Out with the old in with the new. If you think 2020 did not in some way offer you up a personal lesson, think again, take some time to reflect back. We are all changed deeply from the inside out.

Aquarius, you’re up next.

Saturn and Jupiter moved into Aquarius last week. It is the start of a new 200 year cycle, we leave “Earth” and enter “Air”. It is a totally different energetic feeling. It is Air; light, flowy, dry, penetrable, and essential. A new vision for humanity is beginning, a new paradigm as started. Aquarius, you are leading the way! With this conjunction, we feel hope, we know a different future exists. One of collectively caring for one another, no longer just in it for our individual Self and materialism. We understand how coming together to make decisions for the collective is important for the healing and survival of humanity, because it we don’t we will no longer exist. Aquarius is the innovator, the rebel, the future thinker. We wouldn’t exist if this rebel didn’t think outside the box and invent. If we always did things the same way, we would never get anywhere. Guess what? We would not have the internet - Aquarius invention.

This is a new beginning in your chart. Look for the Aquarius symbol, we read charts counter clockwise, find 0°. Which house or houses are encompassed? Saturn is contraction, it is discipline and hard work. The lesson lies in staying the course and doing the work. Jupiter is expansion, it is the reward or opportunity after the hard work has been put in. Watch for this contraction and expansion in the house or houses these planets will transit through in 2021. Not sure where to find this, want deeper insight into your journey? I can help.

Permission to Breathe

2020 was hard, 2021 will have it’s own challenges, but it is a different energy. With Air leading the way, pranayama work is essential. Pranayama is a wheel of yoga, focused on breath work and breathing exercises. Aquarius is Air. Are you interested in practicing yoga and learning more about pranayama?
