Just last night we experienced a Virgo blood moon. Did you see it? I didn't, I chose to sleep as I am recovering from a bout of food poisoning. Of course, as a Virgo on a Virgo full moon, which rules the intestines. Seems fitting though right? I woke up on Thursday morning feeling pretty good and before the world was awake, I slipped into the hot tub and finished the book Wintering by Katherine May. I was bound and determined to finish it before the start of Spring on March 20th! As I started to get into the book, assuming it would advise me to get cozy and drink tea and go to restorative yoga in Winter (it did), I realized the message was so much more than that. She explores the concept of the phases of Wintering in our lives. The times we are not blooming and blossoming, the times when we are feeling a bit down, unproductive, maybe even a bit depressed. The liminal space of the in-between, when not much is happening and we need this slow period of time to rejuvenate, get bored, and then get inspired to create. We need space in our lives to allow for boredom, which is a harbinger of great ideas.
Reading this book inspired me. I took Winter very serious this year.
I'm taking a much needed break, a time to pull away from social media, from the news, from the world as much as possible. My 12th house moon loves a good few weeks of solitude. However, being a mama it is hard to go lock myself in a cave, I still have to partake in daily life. This book helped reveal the opportunity and the permission to slow down and recoup. There are ways to tune out the outside world and fold within.
This is in direct alignment with the astrology happening right now and it might also be very beneficial for you. I am writing this to prep you for the coming astrology through March, so you have an idea of what is to come, Mercury in Retrograde, Aries Eclipse, and Neptune moving into Aries. This is a lot! Venus is already retrograde and when planets are moving backwards it is a time of reflection and retreat. Our nervous systems are amped up for eclipses and when planets move into new signs. It is important to create space to rest and breathe. Can you create space for this? Can you pull away from social media? I know it is going to be so hard, I will miss my friends and family! I will miss the yoga and astrology posts! I will miss you! But I want a break for my eyes and for my mind. It is healthy to take mental health breaks and do a check in (especially around our relationship with the internet).
Mercury in Aries will move retrograde on Saturday 3/15. Mercury is the planet of the mind, it rules over thinking, learning, communicating and is the conduit for messages from the divine. In Aries it is passionate, reactive and impulsive. When it moves backwards it may increase tempers, loss of patience, and increase failures of technology. It is advised not to sign contracts or make huge decisions, especially around relationships at this time. It is a good time to take a social media break, because you can get triggered more easily in Aries. On March 29th it moves back into Pisces and things start to cool down. Communication is more compassionate and empathetic, slower and kinder, it is a good time for a retreat and meditation. It will move forward on April 7th and back into Aries by mid April. I will be back around the week of April 7th and write another newsletter.
Venus is also retrograde in Aries until March 27th when it backtracks into Pisces until April 12th. The exes may start reappearing as the story isn't done or maybe closure is needed. Or maybe they just pop in to your dreams to rework through personal issues and find some healing.
Where is Aries in your chart? Where is Pisces in your chart? There is a lot of activity in these houses this year.
Spring starts on Thursday March 20th! So much fire moving in, this passion and inner inspiration is coming through. If you are looking for a sign to reignite your 2025 goals or affirmations, this is it. The Sun moving into Aries used to be the start of the new year for cultures that followed the calendar of the stars before the Romans took over and forced a new calendar on western cultures. Aries is the start of the NEW astrological new year and it makes sense to begin it in Spring! There is a lot of energy behind the start of a new season. It is TIME to get going, to get excited, and make it happen! Ok, well, maybe wait until after Mercury in Retrograde is over April 7th LOL
The Aries Eclipse on March 29th. Check out the information below on that, two weeks early!
Lastly Neptune will move into Aries on Match 30th for 14 years. The planet of imagination is expected to bring a period of heightened idealism, blurring boundaries, and potential disillusionment (I think we are already seeing this with displays of big egos and self importance with the billionaires). On a positive note, it also brings in a new era of vision and action, potential for creative breakthroughs and a focus on action and instinct. Courage is up for a big boost!
I'm taking off writing on social media and writing the newsletter until the week of April 7th, once Mercury goes direct. Life is packed until then and I want to entirely focus on my family, my health, my yoga classes, and my experiences to be fully in the moment. We are taking an epic road trip next week through Santa Fe, Grand Canyon and Arches/Moab. Wednesday March 26th Shauna and I will be teaching a Spring Equinox Workshop at the Longmont Climbing Collective (link below to sign up!). On the eclipse March 29th friends and family will gather to do herbal baths and craft Witch's Doorbells. Lastly, I'll be attending the first of two classes on The Bhagavad Gita through Transitions Yoga with my good friend Terra.
See you on the flip side dear friends.
